Arts funds award over $87,000 in grants

The Vermont Arts Endowment Fund (VAEF) and the Concert Artists Fund (CAF), two component funds at the Vermont Community Foundation, announced that together they have awarded a total of $87,820 to 26 artists and arts organizations across the state.
The Vermont Arts Endowment Fund awarded grants totaling $38,320 primarily to support the commissioning, creation, and presentation of new work or to assist Vermont artists wishing to take their work in new or different directions. Six awards were made to individual artists and nine to arts organizations presenting the work of Vermont artists. The Concert Artists Fund awarded $49,500 to 10 organizations to support performances of classical music in Chittenden County.
The grant awards included:
Sean Andrew Heaney received $1,500 from the VAEF to support his work ‘Songs,’ The Lorca/Cummings Translations, an exploration of the summer of 1929, when poet Gabriel Garcia Lorca spent time writing in Eden Mills, Vermont.
The Vermont Stage Company received $4,000 from the VAEF to support the world premiere of The Quarry, a play by Shelburne native Greg Pierce with music composed and performed by his brother Randal Pierce. Greg’s most recent play, Slowgirl, premiered at Lincoln Center.
The Vermont Youth Orchestra received $8,500 from the CAF to support their 50th Anniversary celebration concert on May 4th, 2014 which will include a commissioned work by VYOA alumnus/composer Timothy Woos, an alumni orchestra conducted by Troy Peters, and a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.
