Kilawatt Technologies cuts Vermont Mutual's fuel oil use by 40 percent

Kilawatt Technologies, an energy consulting firm with a unique data driven approach, has announced that Vermont Mutual Insurance’s 30,000-square-foot office building in Montpelier cut its Total Building Energy by more than 32 percent, including their fuel oil use by approximately 40 percent in the first six months of 2013.
Previously, it took about 14,000 gallons of fuel oil each year to heat the building. Vermont Mutual hired Kilawatt Technologies to reduce its energy use. After collecting and statistically analyzing detailed data about the building’s energy systems, Kilawatt reconfigured the systems and reduced fuel oil use by 40 percent in the first six months of the year. Based on Kilawatt’s statistical analysis, Vermont Mutual is expected to use approximately 4,000 gallons of fuel oil over the brunt of the 2013-2014 heating season.
Kilawatt Technologies has identified opportunities for Vermont Mutual to reduce their heating fuel use by another 1,000 gallons per year.
In addition, Kilawatt Technologies helped Vermont Mutual reduce their electricity use by approximately 27 percent throughout the building.
The energy consumption results were compared to a 12-month baseline and verified back to the utility and fuel bills.
Annualizing the reductions estimates that approximate 204 metric tons of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, will be avoided annually. This is the equivalent to the amount of carbon sequester by 167 acres of US forest.
Gregory Johnson, President of Kilawatt Technologies: "We're always happy when we can save a client that much energy. There are a lot of energy consultants out there, but few use data and statistical analysis the way that we do. Most don't get anywhere near this type of savings."
Brian C Eagan, VP & CFO, ‘We are thrilled to save that much energy. The money we don’t spend heating and cooling our facility goes directly into reducing operating expenses.’
