Vermont Gas has announced plans for an overall rate reduction of 5.86 percent to take effect on November 1, 2013. The reduction in the cost of natural gas from suppliers will be passed on to residential and business customers, resulting in prices that VGS says are almost 44 percent less than fuel oil and 54 percent lower than propane.
Eric Provost is the owner of Twisted Wrench Automotive Sales and Service in South Burlington, and has been a long-time Vermont Gas customer.
‘The automobile sales and service industry is competitive and customers expect high-quality service at a fair price,’ said Provost. Anytime we can lower our expenses customers benefit. This rate reduction is welcomed news.’
‘Our rate decrease means that Vermont Gas is providing an even more affordable, cleaner and safe alternative to heat Vermonters’ homes and fuel their businesses,’ said Stephen Wark, director of communications at Vermont Gas. ‘This overall trend of declining costs associated with natural gas will continue to help our customers save money on their heating bills for the foreseeable future. Coupled with our award-winning energy efficiency program and our new low-income discount, Vermont Gas customers can reduce their energy costs considerably when they make the easy switch to natural gas.’
Since 2008, Vermont Gas has continued to convert thousands of customers to natural gas, including the recent expansion of service in Enosburg.
Vermont Gas is working with residents, employers, local and state officials to bring natural gas to Addison and Rutland counties via the Addison Natural Gas Project, adding to its current service territory in Franklin and Chittenden counties.
In Vermont, natural gas residential customers can save up to $2,000 per year when compared to fuel oil or propane; eligible low-income Vermont Gas customers can receive an additional 20% discount. The company’s long heritage for safe and reliable operations includes its award-winning energy-efficiency programs, which reduce energy use while saving Vermont homes and businesses more than $13 million every year.
