Kilawatt Technologies, Inc and Neville Companies have completed the installation of a 40 Node, wireless Energy Management System in the 32,000 square foot, multi-tenant building located at 30 Kimball Ave, South Burlington.
The nodes collect data on a five-minute interval on the energy used and the resulting environment across the heat pumps and the heat pump loop control system. Each node, with up to two external sensors, is connected to Kilawatt Technologies cloud based multi-dimensional database via a wireless network that was also installed for this project.

All Heat Pump Hours of Operation have been reduced by approximately 2/3. In another 30 days or so we will be able to start determining the amount of energy that each tenant has saved.
At the initiation of the installation, a circulation pump failure caused a major disruption knocking more than half of the heat pumps off-line. Based on the few nodes that were installed at the time, Kilawatt was able to diagnose the cause and affect a correction without a service call to the HVAC contractor. This resulted in significant Operations savings.
One (1) Heat Pump has already been found to be redundant and has been removed from operation. While this is currently viewed as temporary, we believe that the data will prove out over time that this unit does can be phased-out of service permanently.
Working on the boiler operation and will be targeting the Natural Gas use in the next months.

A large amount of natural gas burn can be eliminated.
Overall Heat Pump Efficiency can be materially improved through better regulation of Heat Pump Loop temperatures.
