Agreement on taxes in the offing, tax conferees announced

by Anne Galloway May 3, 2013 vtdigger.org Sources say Governor Peter Shumlin and Democratic leaders in the House and Senate will strike a deal on taxes today or Monday.
Agreement needs to be reached on a number of outstanding items. The House and Senate versions of the tax bill differ on income, sales, meals and satellite taxes. The governor has said he doesnt want to raise any broad-based taxes.
Meanwhile, the Senate has chosen Senators Tim Ashe, Mark McDonald and Kevin Mullin for the committee of conference. The House conferees are Representatives Janet Ancel, Jeff Wilson and Jim Condon. Mullin is the only Republican serving on the conference committee. Ashe is chair of the Senate Finance Committee and Ancel is chair of House Ways and Means.
A decision about what revenues will be raised is crucial. The budget as passed by the Senate and the House is short about $10 million. The House budget proposal includes $9 million for reserves.
