Burlington School District awarded five-year, $2.26 million community learning center award

The Vermont Agency of Education approved the District's proposal for more than $2 million to support expanded learning opportunities for its students. Burlington's application earned 99.3 out of 100 points for the proposal - the second highest score from 22 applications.
The Agency noted that this was the largest round of funding in the history of the program and that the process was highly competitive. Reviewers were impressed with the scope and depth of the proposal, including:

Excellent mix of academic supports and enrichment;
Meaningful, long-standing partners;
Targeting the neediest kids - English Language Learners and children from low-income households; and

School leadership support is evident and results in strong links to the school day, e.g. principal involvement, shared space, and district funds for support.

Jeff Fournier, Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities, noted: "This award, combined with solid local support and strong collaboration with the many partners, assures that students at all levels will continue to benefit from these vital programs."
