The first two months of the year, though very early in the season, have shown considerable improvements in the Vermont construction industry across the board. McGraw-Hill Construction this week released its February contracts for future construction in the state of Vermont. An authority on the construction market, the firm produces Dodge Reports and Sweets Catalog Files.
For February alone, both nonresidential (commercial) construction and nonbuilding (roads and bridge) are very strong, with nonbuilding more than 10 times the level it was at the same time in 2012. Residential was up a more modest 18 percent. The total for teh month was up 148 percent. Year-to-date (January and February), the total is up 41 percent, with nonresidential and nonbuilding strong and residential lagging.
Construction overall in 2012 was down 13 percent, with nonbuilding falling over $100 million, after modest increases in the other two categories.
According to the Research and Analytics unit of McGraw-Hill Construction, February construction activity followed the following pattern. For comparison purposes, the year-end 2012 results are below.
