Public Service Department Commissioner Christopher Recchia today announced that Darren M. Springer will join the department as Deputy Commissioner, leaving his current position as Chief Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor for Energy and Environment in the Washington, DC, office of Senator Bernie Sanders. Springer is a graduate of Vermont Law School, earning both a JD and a Master of Studies in Environmental Law.
‘ We are very excited that Darren will be coming back to Vermont and joining the department as my Deputy,’ Commissioner Recchia said. ‘ Darren’ s expertise in the areas of energy and the environment will benefit us greatly as we continue to implement the policy goals defined in the Comprehensive Energy Plan.’
Prior to joining Senator Sanders’ office, Springer served as Program Director for Energy and Transportation at the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices. He also worked for Senator Patrick Leahy on the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington D.C., and with the Vermont Alliance of Conservation Voters in Montpelier.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to work with Chris and the team at the Public Service Department, and look forward to being a part of the effort to achieve critical energy policy objectives in Vermont," Springer said. He begins his new role as Deputy Commissioner on March 25.
The Public Service Department is an agency within the executive branch of Vermont state government. Its charge is to represent the public interest in matters regarding energy, telecommunications, water and wastewater.
