Killington Skaters are once again lacing up and taking to the ice on Summit Pond in Killington. The Foundry at Summit Pond has officially opened for public skating, bringing this popular winter activity back to the area. Summit Pond sits directly in front of The Foundry Restaurant on the Killington Road, and offers breathtaking views of Killington Peak from its sparkling surface.
Recent sub-zero temperatures presented ideal conditions for preparing the
ice, according to Foundry owner Chris Karr, who is happy to have a piece of
nostalgia in place.
"Bringing skating back to Summit Pond was always part
of the vision for The Foundry, and we are really excited that the weather is
cooperating," says Karr. "I think it's a reminder of the way things used to
be and it gives everybody kids, families, couples -- another opportunity
to do something fun and active outdoors."
Admission prices are $5 for youth and adult; $3 for under 12. Children
under 5 years old skate for free. Free admission is also offered to Local
Yokel passholders. For those who need skates, the Foundry offers rentals
for $8. And there is free hot chocolate served with the unlimited skate
time.
The Foundry at Summit Pond is open for skating Thursday through Sunday from
3pm to 9pm, with extended hours during holiday weeks. Monster Broomball
League is scheduled Tuesdays from 7pm to 10pm. For a daily skate report
with conditions, hours of operation and more information check their
Facebook page or visit www.foundrykillington.com.
