Newport City Renaissance Corp works with national leaders to create a brighter future for all residents

The Newport City Renaissance Corporation (NCRC) will host a day-long workshop in early February designed to help citizens direct decisions about their citys future. Held in conjunction with the national CommunityMatters partnership, the workshop will focus on an assets-based approach to strengthening Newports ability to solve problems, make decisions and build a resilient city.
The event will bring together a broad spectrum of Newport community members to discover ways to create a brighter future for all residents. CommunityMatters partner organizations will share concrete, tested tools and ideas that have worked in other communities nationwide in areas such as community engagement, placemaking, outreach and communications, dialogue and problem-solving. The event will be a critical step in ensuring that residents are working together actively in shaping a range of future opportunities and challenges, from growing the local economy and making land use decisions to preparing for disasters and protecting Newports unique character.
National leaders in the fields of civic engagement and community and economic development, the seven CommunityMatters partners share the belief that people have the power to solve their communitys problems and direct future growth and change. CommunityMatters partner organizations include the Deliberative Democracy Consortium, Grassroots Grantmakers, National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation, New America Foundation, Orton Family Foundation, Project for Public Spaces, and Strong Towns. CommunityMatters and the partnership were conceived by the Vermont-based Orton Family Foundation.
The workshop is made possible through funding from the Vermont-based Orton Family Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and support from the CommunityMatters partner organizations.
The limited number of workshop spaces available is already filled. If you are interested in learning more about this workshop or getting involved in ongoing efforts, contact Patricia Sears, Executive Director, Newport City Renaissance Corporation, (802) 323-1056 or [email protected].
