President Obamas comprehensive health reform law known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is designed to unfold incrementally from 2010-2018. Areas of the law that will have the biggest impact on Vermont employers and individuals happens in 2014!
January 1, 2014 marks the beginning of a New Era for how individuals and employers will shop for their health insurance benefits. This is the date when Vermonts Health Insurance Exchange opens and when individuals and small businesses will need to follow new rules about how they purchase their health insurance. The new rules are complex and can be confusing. Our goal is to highlight the biggest changes coming in 2014 and to offer you clear and understandable guidance as you prepare to enroll in the Health Exchange beginning in October, 2013.
Topics to be discussed:
A brief overview of the ACA.
A look into Vermonts Health Insurance Exchange, how it works, what it will cost, and how it will impact employers and individuals going forward.
Introducing Vermonts new federally funded Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), the Vermont Health CO-OP. This new "member-owned" CO-OP is currently going through the state licensing process and plans to sell insurance on the Exchange in 2014.
