Thanks to a sustained period of ideal snowmaking conditions, Mount Snow Resort opened for its 60th winter season on Friday, November 21st. Traditionally, the resort opens around the Thanksgiving holiday, but recent upgrades to its snowmaking system coupled with cold weather had the snow piling up, allowing for an earlier than normal start to the season. Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed top-to-bottom terrain for all ability levels on a dozen trails covering 117 acres of skiable terrain accessed by three chairlifts. Carinthia, the East’s only mountain face entirely dedicated to freestyle terrain, opened with a full terrain park in The Gulch with numerous features.
“We had the best sustained snowmaking conditions before an opening day that I can remember,” said Mount Snow’s snowmaking manager Randy Barrows, who has been with the resort for over three decades. “My crew and I are very proud of what we were able to produce for our guests’ first turns of the season.”
Communications Manager David Meeker said: "We had 12 trails covering 117 skiable acres. Best opening in years, if not ever."
Mount Snow underwent an unprecedented snow gun upgrade prior to this winter, receiving 645 new low-energy snow guns – the largest single upgrade in Vermont’s history. This vast collection of new technology strengthened an operation already anchored by the nation’s most expansive fleet of high-output fan guns.
Hours of operation for opening weekend are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, November 21 through Sunday, November 23. Mount Snow plans to suspend operations from November 24 through November26, and then be open daily starting Thanksgiving Day.
Lift ticket prices for opening weekend are $65 for adults, $55 for youth and seniors (age 6-18, 65+) and $5 for kids age 5 and under.
