Brattleboro Memorial Hospitalhas been selected by the Vermont AARP Driver SafetyProgram as the 2014 Host of the Year.According to David Peters, the Vermont State program coordinator, BMH"has hosted our classesfor 20 years and the staff has always provided a level of support and cooperation that is exceptional. I hopethat, working together, we have been able to have an impact upon highway safety in Vermont."
The award will be presented at AARP's Annual State Meeting onOctober 29, 2014, at Vermont TechnicalCollege in Randolph.
The AARP Smart Driver Course, offered by AARP Driver Safety, is the nation’s largest classroom and onlinedriver safety course and is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. Over 15 million participantshave gone through AARP Driver Safety classroom and online courses, taught by more than 4,000 AARPDriver Safety volunteers.
“BMH has been pleased to have the AARP Safe Driving classes consistently available to all of Windham County for many years,” said Wendy Cornwell, director of the BMH Community Initiatives/Blueprint Project. “We are committed to continuing to host these important classes in an effort to improve highway safety in Vermont.”
BMH has provided healthcare services for more than one hundred years. A licensed, 61-bed, not-for-profitcommunity hospital located in southeastern Vermont, it serves a rural population of about 55,000 people in22 towns in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The medical staff includes 137 board-certifiedphysicians, both primary care and many specialists, and its 572 employees enjoy the help of over 110active volunteers.
