Edson Hill Manor in Stowe sells for $1.85 million

Edson Hill Manor, ahistoric Stowe inn, listed by Vermont Country PropertiesSotheby’s International Realty, was recently sold for $1.85 million. Thetransaction represents the highest Stowe real estate sale for both LamoilleCounty and the town of Stowe for the year to-date.The property is currently operated as an inn and restaurant with extensivegrounds, which include the main inn building, four cottages, swimming andfishing ponds, a horse barn paddocks, and a network of trails. The new buyersplan to keep Edson Hill Manor as a full-service luxury inn and restaurant,while adding some of their own personal touches.

“This is an iconic property for its desirable location and reputation,”said the listing andselling broker, Brent Libby, “and its history is truly exceptional. It was originally anestate for a Colorado prospector, and since then, it has been a beautifulsetting for countless weddings and happy family memories. I am glad to knowthat this tradition will continue with its new owners.”

The buyers, three families with long-standing love of the Stowe region, havediverse expertise that they will tap as they take on ownership of Edson HillManor. They are Bill Goldenberg, an investment manager; Jim Goldenberg, acommercial real estate developer; and Susan Stacy, an interior designer,along with long-time hospitality professional Carl Christian.

“Our families have rented a place every year for I don’t know how long.When we saw the chance to buy Edson Hill, it just seemed meant to be,” saidJim Goldenberg. “It is important that we keep the charm and integrity ofEdson Hill. We have ideas about design changes, but wish to respect theexisting property and structures.”

The main Manor building was constructed in 1939 from building materialssalvaged from notable Vermont structures, which tell their own tales ofVermont’s history. Its red brick walls were once part of Burlington’sfamous Sherwood Hotel, and the beams that cross the living room wereoriginally hewn for the barn of the legendary Ethan Allen.
