Trustee pledges $1 million to Norwich University

Norwich University Trustee Harvey DeMovick ’68 and his wife, Jeanne, pledged $1 million in unrestricted funds to the university at the spring trustees’ dinner on Friday, April 25. DeMovick completed his term as a trustee this spring. In his outgoing remarks, he spoke about what it has meant to serve on the board.

“Norwich has as one of its core values ‘service to nation and others before self.’ Jeanne and I truly appreciate that we have been able to give back to NU for the past 10 years,” DeMovick said. “The work being done at Norwich to develop future leaders is extremely important in the world we live in today, and we are proud to have had the opportunity to help in that mission,” he added.

DeMovick was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2005 before the start of the university’s five-year, $55 million “Norwich Forever!” campaign, which ultimately raised just under $82 million. DeMovick drew on decades of experience in the healthcare management industry, chairing the budget and finance committee and serving on the trustee affairs committee.

The DeMovicks’ gift will be matched by a second $1M award drawn from the Tawani Challenge, a $25 million pledge by COL J. N. Pritzker, IL ARNG (Retired), president of the Chicago-based nonprofit Tawani Foundation, to match gifts to Norwich University from former and emeriti trustees in support of the university’s upcoming capital campaign “Forging the Future,” to be launched at Homecoming.

Harvey and Jeanne DeMovick have been enthusiastic supporters of Norwich for years.

“The DeMovicks are two of the most generous people I have ever met,” said Norwich President Richard W. Schneider. “They are absolutely committed to Norwich and to our students.”
