Vermont organizations recognized for workplace safety

Vermont Business Magazine Several Vermont companies were recently recognized for their strong commitment to effective workplace safety at the annual Vermont Safety & Health Council meeting held in Killington, Vermont. The Governor’s Awards for Outstanding Workplace Safety are presented by officials from the Vermont Department of Labor, the Vermont League of Cities & Towns, and the President of the Vermont Safety & Health Council.

The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Workplace Safety is the highest honor given by the State of Vermont to recognize an employer’s commitment to excellence in workplace safety and health policy and practice. These awards recognize specific companies that are committed to effective workplace safety.

The award for Most Improved, in the General Industry category, was awarded to Champlain Cable of Colchester, and the Town of Fair Haven was awarded Most Improved in the Municipality category. Norman James, of the Vermont Association of General Contractors, received a special recognition award for his efforts in highway safety. Certifications for Outstanding Commitment to the Protection, Health, & Safety of their employees went to Sugarbush Resort and Hubbardton Forge.

The Governor’s Award for Outstanding Workplace Safety highlights the benefits of providing a safe workplace for both the employer and its employees. Job safety is one of the most important workplace issues today and can have a significant positive impact on workers compensation, operational costs and employee morale.

Established thirteen years ago, the awards are sponsored by Governor Peter Shumlin, the Vermont Department of Labor, and the Vermont Safety & Health Council.
