by Alexa Mucklow After two years in its Shelburne location, the popular homegrown retailer, Common Deer, is excited to announce its move to Burlington. On Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10 am it will open its doors to the public at its new downtown location at 210 College Street, just off of Church Street, next to the North Face store and across from My Little Cupcake. Common Deer first opened its doors in October 2013, quickly becoming a destination shop for gifts, accessories, and décor. Whether it's a vintage find, local artisan creation, sourced from a small designer maker, fair trade, or just plain made in the USA, Common Deer's owner Sharon Beal knows the story behind each and every product in her store.
“We want you to feel great about the products you purchase, how you decorate your home, and the gifts you give to friends and family,” says Sharon. “At our core is the exploration of how it is made, the people behind the product, and why. Each product has a story, and the story is what sells us.”
Most of the store is made up of products that are small batch manufactured in the USA, things you have never seen before and want to tell your friends about. While the message might drive the store’s stocking decisions, there’s something for everyone. Catering to both men and women, you’ll find accessories, gifts, apparel, and décor. Topo Designs, Shwood sunglasses, Farmhouse Pottery, Peg & Awl are just a sampling of the companies lining the shelves.
“We’re in business to support small business, from local jewelers to regional designer makers,” says Sharon. “And we’re so excited to be joining the amazing retail community of Burlington.”
While Sharon and employees are sad to say goodbye to Shelburne and the wonderful community support, Burlington lends the ability to showcase even more artisans and companies – helping to spread the message of a mindful consumer to a wider audience.
