Two days after signing into law an economic development bill last week that will help continue the strong job growth Vermont has seen in recent years, Goveror Peter Shumlin joined with employers to highlight an upcoming job fair with 35 employers looking to fill over 600 positions.
“It’s promising to see so many Vermont employers hiring,” Shumlin said. “Our challenge is to help those employers find workers to fill those positions. So for those looking for work, be sure to mark June 12thon your calendar.”

The Vermont Career Connections job fair will be held on June 12that the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington from noon to 6:00 p.m. Organized by the Vermont Recruiters Association, the job fair is free to attend and will include jobs openings across all industries, including healthcare, hospitality, banking, construction, and manufacturing. Specific roles range from finance and accounting to sales, marketing, operations, information technology, and human resources. Open positions range from intern to vice president.

The event on June 12thwill also feature roundtable discussions on the best practices for networking at a job fair. Those roundtables will be offered at 1:30 p.m., 3:30 pm, and 5pm. Professional recruiters will also be on hand to offer free resume reviews.
In April, the Governor attended a job fair hosted by the Vermont Department of Labor (DOL) and IBM, which was looking to fill 100 open positions.
Last week, Vermont’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.6 percent, the fourth lowest rate in America. According to DOL data, March saw stronger job growth than initially reported and initial data for April showed an increase of 1,800 jobs in the last month and an increase of over 7,000 jobs from a year ago. Since the Governor took office in January 2011, Vermont has added 16,800 jobs,according to DOL data.
