Do you know who owns your beer? After a year of organization, planning, and home-brewing beer, the members of Full Barrel Cooperative Brewery & Taproom are one step closer to making the answer to be, as the founders put it, “you.” On Sunday, March 1, member-owners gathered in Burlington and voted to approve the brewery’s first bylaws, elect a board of directors, and select the brand’s first logo. The milestones come on the heels of the brewery receiving incorporation status from the State of Vermont in early February.
Full Barrel Cooperative Brewery & Taproom’s aim is to build support for the establishment of a consumer co-op brewery and pub in Burlington, Vermont. Inspired in part by the success ofBlack Starin Austin, Texas, Full Barrel started organizing in March, 2014 and became an officially recognized co-op in February of 2015. Our growing community is in the process of recruiting members and volunteers, compilingideas, holding member meetings, and, of course, brewing beer! “This is a huge step forward,” said Mathew Cropp, provisional treasurer of the group and one of the driving forces behind getting the brewery up and running. “With bylaws, a board, and a legal recognition, we can begin to move forward with our brewery. Hopefully by this time next year, we will be selling Full Barrel brews out of our own space.”
During the VSECU sponsored meeting, Matt Cropp, Russ Elek, Ben Godwin, Beth Hayden, Owen Kunkel, Erin Malone, Peter McConville, Robin Sutphen and Brian Wendt were unanimously elected as the nine founding board members of Full Barrel Cooperative Brewery & Taproom. The brand’s first official logo depicts a group of people lifting a barrel of overflowing beer high into the air and features a pair of twin hops, a nod to the cooperative movement’s historic ‘twin pines’ logo. Official bylaws and board member bios can be found on the brewery’s website, www.fullbarrel.coop.
