The City of South Burlington is seeking public input in defining what the next two City Center projects will look and feel like:Garden Street and City Center/Dumont Park.Garden Street will connect from the new Pier 1 store off of Dorset Street to Midas Drive south of Al’s French Frys. The City purchased Dumont Park in 1975 and has long planned to turn it into a natural area park serving City Center and adjoining neighborhoods. The public is asked to provide comments byFebruary 5, 2015.
Garden Street is a proposed support street for City Center and creates an alternative connection between Dorset Street and Williston Road as a cross street to Market Street. The project includes designing intersection improvements at Williston and White Street and Williston and Hinesburg Road. Market Street runs from Dorset Street to Hinesburg Road and is mostly undeveloped. Dumont Park would run from behind the Blue Mall on Dorset Street south to behind San Remo Drive.(SEE MAP BELOW)
In mid-January public design workshops were hosted by each project’s consultant team. The Garden Street Project design team has questions related to the location and level of bicycle facilities, trees, parking and stormwater treatments as well as the design of a special entry way near Midas Drive. The City Center/Dumont Park Project design team has questions about the location of multi-use paths, Potash Brook tributary crossings, walking paths, and the types of amenities that could be located in the park.
Project alternative are available to be viewed on the City’s main website,www.sburl.com, and in City Hall at 575 Dorset Street, South Burlington, VT.
