Vermont Business Magazine Campaign for Vermont Prosperity (CFV) announced today its new vision for Vermont. Campaign for Vermont is a non-partisan advocacy group that has pushed for ethics reform in state government, a modern education system, better access to the voting booth, and economic prosperity for all Vermonters. CFV was formed by businessman and former Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Lisman in 2011.
“We are excited to announce a sharper message and a vision for what we are working towards” said Executive Director Ben Kinsley.
“We want to see a Vermont where everyone can succeed and we have a state that is sustainable, fiscally, socially, and environmentally” said Board Chairman Louise McCarren, “we do very well in so many areas like environmental and social responsibility, but have families that are struggling to make ends meet.”
Campaign for Vermont Prosperity envisions:
♦ Vermont public policy that fosters prosperity for ALL Vermonters from every corner of the state and all walks of life.
♦ 21st Century economic policies that foster the creation of family-sustaining jobs, with environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and a desirable quality of life.
♦ Political discourse that is data-driven and puts progress ahead of partisanship.
♦ State and local governments that are transparent and accountable, fostering a political atmosphere, and an administrative and communications infrastructure that promotes and encourages an engaged and active electorate.
The organization has set forward several benchmarks for success including: decreasing the gap between cost of living and household income, more bipartisan legislation and less political finger-pointing, economic growth and more affordable housing and utility costs, and higher participation in town meeting and other public hearings.
“Government accountability is really important to us,” said Kinsley, “in order to address the entrenched problems our state is facing we need a transparent and responsive state government. It was important for us while we were laying out our vision for what Vermont can become to set the standard for transparency and the benchmarks for success. We will hold ourselves to that.”
CFV stated it is working to build coalitions with other organizations to achieve these reforms. You can find more information about the CFV vision at CampaignforVermont.org/vision.
