Champlain College and Yankee Chapter PRSA host Communicating for Change

Vermont Business Magazine - Whether organizational change results from reorganization, acquisition, merger, downsizing or new strategic direction, there are unique components to a change situation that demand special communication considerations for internal and external publics.

The Champlain College Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and the Yankee Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (YPRSA) are partnering to host "Communicating for Change.” This professional development session is being offered to the Burlington business community to reveal the science and strategy behind effective change communications and how to prepare a successful communications plan. The session is Friday, Nov. 18 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on the campus of Champlain College, Burlington, VT. The cost is $25 for PRSA members and $35 for non-members, which includes breakfast and a great networking and learning opportunity. All proceeds will benefit the PRSSA Chapter. Go online to register.

Leading the session is presenter, Rosemarie Rung, APR, who has over twenty-five years of corporate communications experience working for two Fortune 50 corporations and her own private consulting practice. She has served as a subject matter expert in crisis communications, change management communications, employee communications and community relations. A past president of the Yankee Chapter of PRSA, Rung conducts various professional development sessions for public relations, communications, and executive-level personnel. She is accredited in Public Relations (APR). Rung also founded and is chairman of Laura’s World Fund, a 501(c)3 organization that supports educational, recreational, and health opportunities for underserved children globally.

This is an exciting opportunity for the Champlain PRSSA Chapter that received national status in January 2016. Jade Ye, the president of Champlain’s PRSSA Chapter, said, “It’s going to be cool to see business professionals come together to support young aspiring students at the professional development session.”

This is the second major event for the chapter, after several of its members attended TuneIn, a PRSSA regional conference held at Boston University, in Boston, MA in February 2016. The mission of the student chapter is to create a community in which Champlain PRSSA members can grow personally and professionally by accessing a variety of career advancement events, publications, advice and network connections, both on and off campus.

The Yankee PRSA Chapter is composed of public relations professionals who work in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Meetings feature seminars, prominent speakers, workshops and discussions on various topics and issues of interest to those who practice public relations. The sessions also provide the opportunity for professionals at all levels to improve and refresh their skills and to meet and converse with colleagues from throughout northern New England.
