GMP restores power to 26,000; 6400 remain out

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power reported Sunday evening that its crews continue to make progress restoring power to 26,000 customers who lost power during Saturday’s severe thunderstorm that hit Vermont and parts of New England. 6,400 customers are still without power and an army of crews will work around the clock to get the power back on, with about 500 people in the field.

“Fast restoration like this can only be done with a dedicated and highly trained team and advance planning,” said Kristin Carlson, Chief Communications Executive. “We are also preparing for a new round of storms that could hit Monday. We will be ready to address any new outages.”

In addition to GMP crews, additional contract crews from out of state are supporting the intensive effort to restore power.  Because of the severe damage, Green Mountain Power expects restoration efforts to continue through Monday for those hardest hit in the Royalton and White River Districts.

Green Mountain Power reminds the public that there are many trees down with power lines tangled in the trees. The lines could still be live and people should stay away from the lines and keep children and pets away until GMP crews arrive.

“Restoring power to customers is our top priority. We want to thank our customers for their patience and support,” said Carlson. “We are in the middle of the summer storm season and encourage everyone to stay safe and be prepared.”
