Vermont Business Magazine Known to everyone in town as "Deac," the City of Winooski announced today that City Manager Katherine Decarreau will be resigning effective August 1, 2016. Decarreau has accepted a position as Executive Director of Finance and Operations at the Chittenden Central Supervisory Union.
“It has been an honor to serve the City of Winooski over the last seven years. The opportunities in front of us are exciting and will require a very different skillset than the ones I brought to the position when I arrived. It is a really good time for me to return to more ‘nuts and bolts’ work that I love. It is an equally good time for the City to evaluate our needs moving forward and to hire a new Manager with the skills that will take us forward for the next part of our development,” Decarreau said.
The City of Winooski has transformed itself over the past dozen years. The new downtown development altered the landscape of Winooski and was the leading edge of Smart Growth in the State of Vermont.
In a statement, Winooski Mayor Seth Leonard said: “Deac’s impact on Winooski’s government and community cannot be overstated. Winooski has flourished under her leadership, and we are extremely thankful to her for her years of service. From a governmental perspective, Deac established strong organizational and financial structures, systems, and policies that will act as a resilient foundation for future work to move our community forward. Deac also oversaw the establishment of forward thinking civic systems and opportunities for residents to get involved and engaged. Winooski’s diverse residents have more input and ability to participate in the way their government serves our community than ever before because of Deac’s work. As we look forward to Winooski’s future, we have leadership in our city that will seek to continue Winooski’s evolution as a community in which our residents are excited to live. While we will never be able to replace the professional and personal qualities Deac brought to the City Manager position, we will take this opportunity to find a future City Manager that will thrive in our vibrant and unique city. We wish Deac the best as she moves forward in her professional career.”
