Pathways Vermont Launches community kitchen in the Old North End

Vermont Business MagazinePathways Vermont, a local housing and mental health service agency, recently completed the installation of a community kitchen in their building in Burlington’s Old North End. The kitchen is a new addition to The Wellness Co-op, Pathways’ community center located at 279 North Winooski Avenue. The program is funded primarily by the Vermont Department of Mental Health and aims to create a vibrant community that supports resilience through collective learning, creative exploration and mutual support. In 2015 the center had more than 500 unique visitors.

“Community meals and programming related to nutritional wellness have been highly requested since the Wellness Co-op opened in 2012,” explains Project Director Nicholas Parrish. “We are excited to finally be able to offer these important resources to our community.” The Wellness Co-op plans to begin offering regular community meals in February and launch educational programming later this spring. The kitchen installation was part of a larger construction project that included total renovation of the first floor and installation of an accessible shower for public use. The project was completed with funding through the City of Burlington’s Community Development Block Grant program and a loan from Merchant’s Bank.

Pathways Vermont invites the public to check out their new space at a Grand Re-Opening Celebration onThursday, February 4thfrom5 PM to 8 PM. The event will feature live music, theater performances, and an art gallery all provided by the Burlington community. For more information please contact Nicholas Parrish at[email protected].
