Ledyard recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite

Vermont Business MagazineLedyard National Bank has been recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite. Ledyard has been working towards this achievement over the past few years as they have taken steps to encourage, motivate, and educate their employees and clients about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle. With leadership from their Wellness Committee, Ledyard met criteria across the lines of physical activity, nutrition, smoking policy, and workplace culture to accomplish this recognition.

As part of their application, Ledyard submitted their work with the Ledyard Live Well Walking Challenge which ran in September and October this year partnering with Hypertherm, King Arthur Flour, and Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital. Over four weeks the 308 participants across the four companies walked a total of 74,143,179 steps. The Ledyard Live Well Walking Challenge will become an annual event for Ledyard and they hope to draw more participants each year and open the challenge up to other fit-minded companies.

The American Heart Association’s goal by the year 2020 is to not only reduce the rate of death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke by 20 percent, but also to improve the heart health of all Americans by 20 percent. That is why the American Heart Association places such an importance on creating a healthy work environment, and why they encourage employers to become recognized as Fit-Friendly Worksites.
