Vermont Business Magazine SKI MAGIC LLC announced today that it will open the new Magic Mountain National Disc Golf Course to the public on August 19th with 9-holes of an eventual 18-hole championship course in scenic Londonderry Vermont. The course layout stretches across multiple ski trails and wooded glades on the lower part of Magic Mountain. “Disc Golf is one of the fastest growing sports and is a great way to get out and experience our mountain throughout the year when we’re not skiing”, said Geoff Hatheway, President of SKI MAGIC LLC. “It’s an affordable, fun sport that everyone can play while enjoying beautiful views and a little friendly competition.”
The Magic Mountain National Disc Golf Course was designed by Tim Garvey and takes advantage of Magic’s natural terrain and ski trails making for a classic New England-style course with some wide-open fairways mixed in with tight wooded glades requiring some precise shot-making. The layout can be viewed at www.magicmtn.com/disc-golf. The course is only $5 to play and discs can be rented for $5 at the “Pro Shop” up at Magic’s Black Line Tavern at the top of the lodge. The course will initially be open Thursdays-Sundays from 11am-7pm or dusk.
Magic’s course will also play host to a new tournament on September 1st that combines both golf and disc golf for a first-ever Golf Biathlon event. In partnership with nearby Tater Hill Golf Club, entrants will play a fun two-person team “scramble” tournament with 9-holes of traditional golf at Tater Hill followed by 9-holes of Disc Golf at Magic. The tournament is open to all with advanced registration at $100 per player and a portion of proceeds goes to benefit the University of Vermont’s Children’s Hospital. The tournament includes prizes and dinner with an After Party at Magic’s Black Line Tavern. There will also be competitions at the After Party for long disc throw, closest to the line, and a disc putting contest to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital. These post-tournament contests will be open to the public, even those having not played in the tournament.
“The Golf Biathlon Tourney is going to be a fun event mixing the two styles of golf, and the scramble format means you always take the best shot of your two-person team, so people of any skill level can get out there and have a little fun”, commented Craig Moulton, Manager of Magic’s Black Line Tavern and the new Magic disc golf pro shop. “Plus, we have Fiddlehead Brewery, Josh Cellars Winery and Prodigy Disc as tournament sponsors, so a good time by all is guaranteed.”
