
Vermont Business MagazineUSCitizenship and Immigration Services will present 20 citizenship candidates to the Honorable JGarvan Murtha, USDistrict Judge, USDistrict Court of Vermont at an Independence Day-themed naturalization ceremony to take place at President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth. The naturalization ceremony is one of many taking place across the country in the days leading up to and on July 4th. It is also part of the Calivin Coolidge Home July 4thcelebration ofevents.
Judge Murtha will administer theOath of Allegianceto America’s newest citizens. Coolidge Presidential Foundation executive director, Matthew Denhart, and chairman, Amity Shlaes, will provide congratulatory remarks to the new citizens and guests. Musical selections will be performed by Bill Wiles of Castleton University, and the great-granddaughter of President Coolidge, Jennifer Sayles Harville, will sing the National Anthem.
The 20citizenship candidates originate from the following 10 countries: Bhutan, Brazil, Canada, India, Jamaica, Romania, South Korea, Somalia, Spain, and United Kingdom.
This ceremony is part ofUSCIS’ annual Independence Day celebration. This year, USCIScelebrates the 241st anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and our nation’s birthday, by welcoming nearly 15,000 new U.S. citizens at more than 65 Independence Day-themed naturalization ceremonies across the country.

President Calvin Coolidge Birthday Celebration
Selected as a “Top 10 2017 Summer Event” by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce.
Plymouth’s July 4thcommemorates the Nation’s birth, as well as the only USpresident born on Independence Day. The day begins at 10:00 with the Naturalization Ceremony – the induction of 20 new UScitizens. At noon, the Vermont National Guard leads a march to the cemetery where a wreath from the White House is placed at the president’s gravesite. Afternoon activities include Stringfield Springers old-time string band, barbecue, birthday cake, historic craft demonstrations, wagon rides, and a “marathon reading” of Coolidge’s autobiography. Organized by the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Foundation and Vermont Division for Historic Preservation.
