FairPoint appoints Michael Reed Vermont president

Vermont Business Magazine FairPoint Communications announced today the appointment of Michael C Reed to the position of State President of Vermont. This position acts as the chief spokesperson for FairPoint in Vermont and liaison to government officials and state-based customers. Reed will also continue to serve as FairPoint State President of Maine. Reed replaces Beth Fastiggi, who was named Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Human Resources earlier today. Fastiggi departs after nearly 30 years with FairPoint and predecessor companies to join Vermont state government. SEE STORY HERE

“Having worked closely with many Vermont state agencies during his career and having lived in the state at various times for more than 30 years, Mike is uniquely qualified for this position, and I am confident he will be a tremendous asset to both the state and to FairPoint,” said Peter Nixon, Executive Vice President of External Affairs for FairPoint.

“We thank Beth for her many years of service and her contributions to the company, and we wish her well as she embarks on a new career within state government,” Nixon added.

“During my career, I have seen tremendous technological changes revolutionize how our friends, neighbors, and businesses communicate with one another and our broader world,” said Fastiggi. “I am very proud to have helped propel this change by bringing a deeper, fiber-based network throughout FairPoint’s territory in Vermont. The millions of dollars FairPoint has invested to extend fiber statewide has brought higher speed internet services to more Vermonters, in turn supporting the state’s economic development and quality of life.”

FairPoint shareholders will vote Tuesday on whether to accept an acquisition offer from Illinois-based Consolidated Communications. The deal, announced last December, is an all-stock offer for approximately $56 million. Consolidated would then assume $900 million in FairPoint debt. The transaction would close later this year pending shareholder and regulatory approval.

FairPoint Communications, Inc (Nasdaq: FRP) provides advanced data, voice and video technologies to single and multi-site businesses, public and private institutions, consumers, wireless companies and wholesale re-sellers in 17 states.
