VSP: Fatal accidents in NEK on Thursday

Vermont State Police The Vermont State Police reported two separate fatal accidents on Thursday. On the evening of 12/27/18 at 1815 hours Troopers were notified of a 2 vehicle head on crash with injury and entrapment on US Route 5 at the Lyndon/Burke town line. Troopers responded to the scene along with member's of the Lyndon and West Burke Fire Departments as well as Lyndon Rescue.

Operator #1 Stanzione (71) was extricated from her vehicle and was transported to NVRH. Operator #2 Burke (21) was treated for minor injuries. Investigation revealed that vehicle #1 crossed over the double yellow center lines and into the oncoming lane of travel colliding with vehicle #2 in a glancing head on collision. Stanzione was later airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where she succumb to injuries she sustained in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation at this point in time and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Trooper Brennan at 802-222-4680.

Vermont State Police On 12-27-18 at 1234 hours members of the Vermont State Police and Orleans County Sheriffs' Department were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision in front of Bob's Quick Stop in Irasburg. Investigation determined that Walter Earle was traveling southbound on VT 14. Laine Ross was traveling northbound on VT 14 and attempted to enter Bob's Quick Stop when he pulled in front of Earle who was traveling southbound. Earle attempted to brake and pull to the far right but was not able to avoid hitting Ross's vehicle which had crossed over into his lane of travel. Ross was pronounced dead at the scene. Ross was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Both Earle's vehicle and Ross's vehicle entered the parking lot area of Bob's Quick Stop and struck 3 unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot area causing minor damage to their vehicles. Investigation is still on going and members of the Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction team assisted with processing the accident scene.
