GMP alerts customers of possible outages from storm late Thursday

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power is preparing for possible outages as a multi-faceted storm heads toward Vermont. The National Weather Service says the system will arrive late tonight and first bring winds up to 50MPH, along with rain, freezing rain, and ice followed by warming temperatures and possible river flooding.

“We are preparing for the weather forecast and we’re ready to respond to possible outages,” said Mike Burke, GMP’s Chief of Field Operations. “Safety is the top priority and we want customers to know severe weather is on the way, and to be safe. Predicted wind gusts could take down trees and power lines.”

Forecasters say high winds will last through the day Friday, particularly along the western slopes of the Green Mountains. The National Weather Service says flooding is possible starting late Friday into Saturday morning, with rainfall reaching up to 1.5 inches and snowmelt expected from temperatures reaching 50 degrees before cooling down again.

GMP is reminding customers to stay away from downed lines or trees, and not cross flooded roadways. You can report outages and get power restoration times using our online Outage Center: https://outages.greenmountainpower.com
