No Waste Compost seeks to scrap food waste

Vermont Business Magazine No Waste Compost L3C (NWC), a local, affordable, food scrap hauling and waste diversion company, is changing the way residents and businesses alike contribute to the wider Vermont reuse system. Formed in July 2017 by Jacob Wollman and Cameron Scott, NWC works to close the loop of food reuse in Chittenden County.

“We knew Vermont residents needed an affordable food scrap pickup service that did not yet exist. Our goal was create a low cost, reliable service, as well as educate residents and businesses about the impact of their food waste” (Cameron Scott, Co-Owner). This lead to the development of their mission to help improve the health of the local environment and create meaningful connections throughout their community. Currently, the company diverts over 2000 lbs of food waste every week and services Burlington, South Burlington, Shelburne, Williston, Winooski, Essex, Colchester, and many other locations.

No Waste Compost has developed a system designed to bring personalized, reliable service at municipal scale and pricing. From providing the waste receptacle to sending text and email re- minders, NWC seeks to make composting a habit that’s as easy to start as it is to keep. Through meetings with state and county level officials, NWC is seeking to not only serve our community but be an integral part in moving the state to a more sustainable future. They offer a diverse range of service levels, available in a wide range of prices, in order to allow everyone to have access to the service on nearly any budget.

According to Act 148, Vermont’s Universal Recycling Law, all Vermont residents will be required to stop sending food scraps to the landfill by 2020. With few haulers offering affordable, residential, and low volume production hauling, NWC is poised to be integral part of the future of Vermont’s waste system.
