Vermont Business Magazine Below is a statement issued by The University of Vermont Monday:
“It’s Ok to be White” signs once again appeared on the UVM campus and at Champlain College over the weekend. In thepast the signs appear to have been posted as part of a national effort. They were removed because they were posted in violation of University posting policy. To the extent that the signs are intended to promote a white nationalist ideology, as news reports have suggested, we condemn the activity in the strongest possible terms, as it is completely antithetical to our core University values.
Last February, the Burlington Police Department released the results of an FBI/Local Police investigation into white supremacist posters that had appeared on the UVM campus earlier that month. The investigation conclusively determined that several of the people identified in the group that placed the posters were from out of state and had no affiliation with Burlington or UVM. The investigation uncovered no evidence to suggest UVM students were part of the group or facilitated its work. "It does appear, however, that these individuals intended to cause strife, disruption and mistrust on local college campuses by expressing hostile and troubling messages in their public spaces. There is also evidence that these individuals have participated in extremist group activities in other communities," a Burlington Police Department communication stated.
We will remain vigilant, take all appropriate steps and continue to work closely with police on these matters. Our priority remains to advance the safety, health and well-being of our students and other members of our University community.
