Vermont Business Magazine Smugglers’ Notch Distillery has purchaseda 14,000-square-footfacility on a 10-acre campus along the Lamoille River in the heart of Jeffersonville. A ribbon-cutting and cocktail party to launch site renovations will be on Thursday, October 4 from 2 -4 PMwith Governor Phil Scott and USRepresentative Peter Welch to speak at the ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 PM.
State Senator Richard Westman said, “Vermont distilleries are expanding and thriving in Vermont! Smugglers’ Notch Distillery has been a leader in this movement and this latest expansion with their new building is exciting news! All of Vermont is benefiting from the expansion of these businesses. We in Jeffersonville and the Smugglers’ Notch area are thrilled with the success of Smugglers’ Notch Distillery.”
It all started in 2009 with a lease and later purchase of the former Bell-Gates building in Jeffersonville for father/son Ron and Jeremy Elliott and their fledgling company, Smugglers’ Notch Distillery. “Even though extra space was incorporated in the local granary for barrel storage, it’s been a challenge to accomplish all our goals within such a small physical footprint. With the addition of the former Northwoods Joinery on Route 15 to our existing sq. ft. for a total of over 20,000 square feet of production and retail space, SND has the privilege to grow right where we want to be, at the base of the fabled Smugglers’ Notch in a very special community,” notes Ron. “With capacity increasing seven-fold, this will allow us to create on a larger scale and invest more in the people and economy of Vermont.”
As Jeremy describes, “The Town of Cambridge/village of Jeffersonville has taken enormous steps to become a place to enjoy its incredible natural beauty, from the expansion of the rail trail to the awe-inspiring silo art and Main Street beautification projects, the Community Center, JFAM, cultural and community events, and canoe/kayak tours down the Lamoille. Our partnering with the community for recreational opportunities will be a perfect fit. The river borders the new SND property and the rail trail is an easement right through the land so working with the town to launch activities is a natural!”
