Representative Jim Condon dies at 60

Vermont Business MagazineRepresentative Jim Condon (D-Colchester) passed away Thursday evening. He served in the Legislature since 2005, but announced last spring he would not seek another term. Condon had battled esophageal cancer. He might be best known as a local radio personality on WKDR-AM or the former proprietor of the Radio Deli on Pearl Street in Burlington.

House Speaker Mitzi Johnson issued the following statement:

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of a dear colleague and friend to all, Representative Jim Condon. Jim was a devoted public servant, fondly known for his booming voice and sense of humor, who represented his community of Colchester with great distinction."

His longtime committee Chair, Representative Janet Ancel shared, “Jim had a huge heart. I will deeply miss his wit, intelligence, and friendship.”

"Jim was a beloved member and will be greatly missed," said Speaker Johnson.

Governor Phil Scott issued this statement:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rep. Jim Condon. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. I join legislators, Jim’s constituents and Vermonters across the state in mourning this loss. Jim was a remarkable public servant for the residents of Colchester, and a strong advocate for all Vermonters.

“I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Jim during my time in the Vermont Senate. He was truly an independent voice, always acting in the best interests of his constituents. Jim was eager to reach across the aisle and work together on important issues. His experience and wisdom on the House Ways and Means Committee was incredibly valuable.

“Jim set a strong example for all his colleagues, and his years of service are appreciated.”
