Vermont Business Magazine Lamoille Housing Partnership (LHP) recently hosted the inaugural Summer Harvest for Housing to benefit the affordable housing non-profit’s mission in Lamoille County and Hardwick. On a steamy Friday evening in Johnson, more than 60 folks gathered under a large tent at Legion Field to enjoy a community style dinner, with live music and lawn games to benefit Lamoille Housing Partnership. The Summer Harvest for Housing fundraiser benefitted the local non-profit’s mission of “creating and preserving affordable housing for low and moderate income residents of Lamoille County and Hardwick.”
“Our sponsors, food donors, chefs, and vendors set a high bar that made for a great event. Guests ate a delicious meal, and danced a toe tapping finale by the Dale & Darcy Trio,” reflects LHP executive director, Jim Lovinsky. “Our primary goal at LHP is creating affordable housing for local residents, but we also measure our success by the acceptance of and support from the community at large. Through this measure alone, the Summer Harvest for Housing at Legion Field in Johnson was a success!” explains Lovinsky.
The dinner, cooked by area chefs Nadav Mille and Jeff Egan, featured grilled burgers and sausages, summer salad, and pizza cooked in Johnson’s Community Wood Fired Oven. The Alchemist donated beer, and was on hand serving suds – ending on a sweet note, the meal also included Kingdom Creamery ice cream and root beer floats, as well as treats baked by volunteers from Lamoille Area Board of Realtors and Meals on Wheels of Lamoille County.
“Events like The Summer Harvest for Housing allow LHP to celebrate our years of success with our friends and neighbors in the communities where we make a difference in everyday lives through development of affordable housing. We are proud of our work and deeply appreciative of the many supporters, both individuals and businesses, who help to make LHP a strong local partner providing safe, decent, affordable housing right here in Lamoille County and Hardwick,” says Lovinsky.
The event was sponsored by two dozen local businesses, including Donald P. Blake Jr. and Community National Bank. More than ten Vermont farms and food producers donated locally crafted and grown ingredients, including Jasper Hill Cheese, Snug Valley Farm, Elmore Mountain Bread, Vermont Salumi and Naked Acre Farm. Because of this backing, 100% of proceeds from both general admission and raffle tickets will go towards benefitting Lamoille Housing Partnership’s work in the community. “The money raised also leverages critical grant funding that LHP relies on, dollar for dollar - this enables us to continue to do our important work” explains Lohr. She adds, “we’re incredibly humbled by and appreciative of the generosity from local businesses, food producers, and attendees – this combined support impacts our work significantly. We’re looking forward to the second annual Summer Harvest for Housing in 2019!”
LHP’s next upcoming event takes place at Sushi Yoshi in Stowe, on August 28th in honor of the restaurant’s month long anniversary celebration. Sushi Yoshi’s “Give Back” series donates $5 from each check throughout the day to a non-profit of the restaurant’s choice, every Tuesday in August.
