New unemployment claims in Vermont fell again to under 500 last week, which follows a typical pattern of fewer claims during the summer. For the week of July 27, 2013, there were 463 new, regular benefit claims for Unemployment Insurance in Vermont. This is a decrease of 65 from the previous week's total, and 131 fewer than they were a year ago.
Altogether 5,590 new and continuing claims were filed, a decrease of 104 from a week ago and 717 fewer than a year ago. The Department also processed 777 First Tier claims for benefits under Emergency Unemployment Compensation, 2008 (EUC08), 4 fewer than a week ago.
In addition, there were 21 Second Tier claims for benefits processed under the EUC08 program, which is 1 fewer than the week before. The Tier III program of extended benefits is being discontinued in Vermont as the state's unemployment rate has been under the federal threshold for more than three months.
The total for all programs was 6,391 claims, 112 fewer than last week and 1,749 fewer than the same time last year.
