Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott yesterday signed special session bills S4, an Act Relating to Miscellaneous Judiciary Procedures, and S5, an Act Relating to Racial Equity in State Government. He said these Special Session bills addressed concerns that previously led him to veto similar bills during the regular session.
Scott issued the following statement:
“I am pleased to sign these bills today and appreciate the Legislature’s work in passing legislation that aims to enhance racial equity in state government and update and clarify certain judicial procedures.
“I also appreciate lawmakers’ willingness to address concerning provisions that caused me to veto the originally-passed versions of these bills (S.222 and S.281, which was substituted with Executive Order 04-18). I believe these two bills are great examples of how, when we can agree on the goals, the Legislative and Executive Branches can work together to pass strong, effective laws to improve state government and the lives of Vermonters.”
