Scott's inaugural gala raises $35,000 for Harley Davidson raffle

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott announced he will oversee the drawing of the winning raffle ticket for a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle onSaturday, June 30at Green Mountain Harley Davidson in Essex Junction. Scott purchased the motorcycle using funds raised at his inaugural gala through Vermonters United to Help, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization of which he is a board member.

In August 2017, the Governor announced a fundraising raffle partnership with the Vermont Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) and Green Mountain Harley Davidson (GMHD). CVMA is a nationwide organization dedicated to helping veterans and there are three Chapters in Vermont. The 699 raffle tickets were sold by Vermonters United to Help, all three chapters of the CVMA and GMHD. The $35,000 proceeds from the raffle will be used by CVMA to help veterans’ causes.

Governor Scott’s father, Howard R. Scott, was severely wounded during World War II. “My father passed away when I was 11 years old and the memory of his sacrifice for our freedom compels me to support all veterans, especially those in need,” said Scott. “I am very pleased to be able to support causes for members of our military and their families, as well as veterans, through the gala proceeds.”

CVMA State Representative Kurt Merriman thanked the Governor for his support for veterans’ causes. “The CVMA mission nationwide is to support and help veterans who have defended this nation,” according to Merriman. “And our three chapters in Vermont are very aggressive in pursuing that mission.”

Scott’s inaugural gala raised nearly $200,000 for veterans and military causes through Vermonters United to Help. Additional funds donated to military and veterans causes include support for the construction of the Hershel “Woody” Williams Medal of Honor Foundation Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Northfield, honoring the families who have lost a loved one in battle; and to the Vermont National Guard Charitable Foundation to help military members and their families meet emergency financial needs.
