Condos commends passage of voter protection bill H624

Vermont Business MagazineOn May 1, H624, an act relating to the protection of personal voter information in the statewide voter checklist, was passed by the Legislature. H624, sponsored by RepDylan Giambatista of Essex Junction, creates additional protections for Vermont voter’s private data contained in the statewide voter checklist. Secretary of State Jim Condos has issued the following statement, praising passage of the bill.

“Protecting the privacy and security of Vermont voters’ most sensitive information is something I take very seriously, which is why I refused to comply with the request by President Trump’s Election Integrity Commission to turn Vermont data over,” Secretary Condos said.

“By passing H624 the Legislature has taken an important step forward in creating additional protections for this private and personal data, which Vermonters expect and deserve. I want to thank the Legislature for their support of this bill, and thank Rep. Giambatista for his leadership on this important issue. We look forward to Governor Scott signing this bill into law.”

The initial vote in the House was generally split along party lines.
