VAAFM Awards $200,000 in New Local Food Purchase Assistance Grants

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets (VAAFM) announces a second list of grant awards from a new competitive round of Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) funding. Approximately $200,000 will be awarded to nine organizations that have diverse projects to purchase from socially disadvantaged Vermont farmers and producers and distribute to underserved community members across the state.

Awards include $50,000 to SUSU commUNITY Farm to launch an expanded free CSA program for BIPOC families and new refugees; $37,319 to Conscious Homestead to expand their Community Care Share Program to distribute locally grown and produced food from BIPOC-operated enterprises to members of Black and Brown communities; and $25,500 to Healthy Roots Collaborative to purchase and distribute local food to 20 Northwest Farmacy CSA recipients and 8 NOTCH Clinic mini-fridges.

This funding is part of a larger LFPA program that is administered by USDA Agricultural Marketing Service and is part of the “Build Back Better” initiative authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act.

CWE VT is joining the Community Navigator Pilot Project to provide expanded technical assistance to more rural vermonters, women, LGBTQ+, veterans, BIPOC Vermonters, and New American Community Members.

Fairs and Field Days Funding Announcement

Announcing $500,000 for
Vermont's Fairs and Field Days

The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets has awarded $500,000 to support Vermont's Fairs and Field Days.

These 12 fairs represent critical pieces of Vermont's working landscape and agricultural history. Nine fairs will receive $30,000 each to make capital improvements to their fairgrounds focused around public safety and consumer experience, and twelve fairs will receive a stipend varying from $9,000-$20,000 to support their operational costs.

Farmers Raising Children Survey

Wanted: Farmers, ranchers, and their partners raising children! The National Farm Medicine Center is looking for primary caregivers of children under 18 to participate in an online survey about how they are juggling children and work.
