Vermont Business Magazine Convenience stores in central and northwestern Vermont are taking part in the annual Light a Light for a Child Campaign to benefit the work of Prevent Child Abuse Vermont. At thirty-six Champlain Farms locations and seventeen Simon’s locations, customers can purchase a paper circle with the image of a wreath with a lit candle in the center for $1.00, or any amount they choose to donate. They can write their names or a name of someone they wish to honor, and the wreaths will be hung in the store or can be taken home. All proceeds go to support the effective child abuse prevention programs and trainings of PCAVT.
The Light a Light for a Child Campaign has been raising funds and awareness since 2013 and has raised almost $60,000 in that time. “It is a simple way to engage the community in support of the work PCAVT does, and it demonstrates just how important every gift is, no matter the size.” says Linda Johnson, Executive Director. “When we come together, we can achieve change and help children and families thrive.”
Participating stores will be selling the wreaths from the end of November through January 15. Some stores have even challenged each other to see which location can raise the most funds! When you visit one of these stores, please donate and thank them for their supporting Vermont’s children. The mission of PCAVT is to promote and support healthy relationships within families, schools, and communities to eliminate child abuse. Serving Vermont began as Parents Anonymous of VT in 1976 and has grown to have a helpline and 3 main programmatic areas: Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Family Support Programs, and the Safe Environments for Infants and Toddlers Program. PCAVT partners with over 250 organizations across Vermont, and many more both nationally and internationally. PCAVT’s programs are skills based, teaching adults how to nurture healthy development in children, and emphasize adult responsibility in keeping children safe.
