Merged NEFCU and VSECU will get new name

Vermont Business Magazine As part of their preparations for their proposed merger, VSECU and NEFCU have completed an evaluation of their individual brand identities. The financial institutions announced today that they will create a new brand identity and name for the merged credit union, pending the merger’s approval by the membership. The new name would take effect after they are operating as one credit union, potentially in late 2023.

In a joint state, the credit unions said: "We made this decision after careful consideration and with sensitivity to the attachment and loyalty members and employees have to the legacy of their respective credit unions. We felt it was important to move forward with a brand and name that are inclusive and reflective of a unified mission and vision that incorporates the core values and goals of both credit unions.

"As we embark on this exciting process, we will engage members, employees, and branding experts to ensure we remain true to the spirit of both brands. We don’t know yet what they will be, but we can say this much: the new name and brand will embody the new partnership between our two organizations, reflect our commitment to our members and communities, and support our work together now and in the future.

"We expect to notice a member Special Meeting later this fall so that you can vote on the proposed merger. We know that the name of the credit union moving forward was an important consideration for our members prior to the vote. Our new credit union will have a new name.

"We appreciate your membership, patience, engagement, and support for the merger. As we integrate our resources to bring the best that both our organizations have to offer, we will keep you up to date on decisions that will affect your banking experience. We are building a stronger co-op together AND keeping local banking in Vermont. We are excited for a bright future for our members and all Vermonters!"
