Thomas Witschi, former CEO at EatingWell, to lead Mamava

Vermont Business Magazine Sascha Mayer, co-founder of Mamava, announced today that Thomas Witschi has been retained as her successor and will oversee and lead the company moving forward.

Mayer will stay on in the capacity of Chief Brand Officer and Chairperson of the Board, working with Witschi on strategic initiatives and direction of the brand.

Witschi’s appointment comes at a time of rapid growth for Mamava, which acquired its manufacturing facility—Mamava Manufacturing in Springfield, Vermont—last fall. The company is expected to more than double its revenue this year ($10.1 million in 2021).

Tom Witschi most recently served as President of Consumer Products for Meredith Corporation where he oversaw operations, growth marketing, and strategic acquisitions to drive consumer revenue through new businesses, including e-commerce platforms, membership and partnership programs, brand licensing, and content marketing. Witschi was with Meredith for eleven years and left shortly after Dotdash, a division of IAC, acquired Meredith in December 2021.

Witschi has roots in Vermont. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont, and from 2005 to 2011, Witschi held the role of CEO at EatingWell Media Group, growing the Vermont-based independent multi-media company to a successful acquisition by Meredith Corporation, which invited him to join the company as President, Meredith Lifestyle Group.

In her new role, Mayer will continue to oversee the Mamava brand's mission and product design experience, marketing, public relations, and company culture. Mayer and Mamava’s other co-founder and COO, Christine Dodson will continue to be the face of the brand whose mission is to create a healthier society through infrastructure and support for breastfeeding.

“Bringing Tom on board represents the next phase for our growing company,” says Mayer. “Tom’s extensive experience in early-stage companies, mature businesses and new line extensions—as well as his experience running a Vermont-based company—made him the perfect candidate.”

“I’ve long-admired Mamava as a smart business with an important mission, doing important work for parents and society as a whole,” says Witschi. “When Sascha approached me about this role, I jumped at the chance to scale the company’s impact.”

“I am so proud of the category we created, the impact we are making, and the business we have built. As an entrepreneur I have loved being in command of the destiny of my life and business, and I see choosing my own successor (when, who, how) as a continuation of that journey,” says Mayer. “I am excited for what the evolution in management means for the success of the company.”
