Child care providers trained through workforce development partnership

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s workforce crisis is compounded by a lack of access to child care. The Vermont Adult CTE Association (VACTEA) is working to address both issues by developing a program to support adults to enter careers as skilled, trained, child care providers.

The program is designed to onboard individuals who for a variety of reasons could use extra support to begin their careers in Early Childhood Education (ECE).

These community members could include individuals who don’t feel quite ready to enroll in college courses, who were formerly employed in ECE before the new state regulations and are now not certified to work at a child care center, or individuals who want to open a home child care center but need help navigating the system.

This roughly 130-hour program includes the following components:
Orientation
CPR/First Aid Certification
Vermont Orientation Training
Mandated Reporter Training
Primed for Success Professional Skills Module
Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals
PAID Internship!

In 2022, VACTEA anticipates classes will be offered in Hyde Park, Springfield, and Brattleboro with classes in Newport and Bennington added if there is sufficient demand. Financial assistance is available for many applicants.
