Vermont Business Magazine Nearly a dozen Vermont businesses are partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association Vermont Chapter to support the 2022 Camel’s Hump Challenge set for Saturday, February 5. The Challenge offers a rigorous wilderness ski touring experience where backcountry Nordic skiers traverse around the perimeter of Camel’s Hump, the third highest peak in Vermont’s Green Mountains, to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Proceeds from the event support the educational programs and services offered free of charge by the Vermont Chapter.
Among the businesses supporting the 2022 CHC, Burlington-based Switchback Brewing Co. will be donating a portion of proceeds from its Tap Room sales during the month of February. The cause hits home for the employee-owned brewery, as one of their staff members has lost family members to Alzheimer’s disease.
“Whether experiencing it personally or assisting a loved one that has been affected, we know that donating to the Alzheimer's Association Vermont Chapter means that research toward a cure continues and supporting resources will continue to be provided to our community. No one should have to go through anything alone,” said Sarah Diaz, Tap Room Manager for Switchback Brewing Co.
“We also know that when dealing with difficult topics, staying active and having fun is necessary to nourish the soul. The Camel's Hump Challenge is an awesome opportunity for enthusiastic folks to contribute to this incredible organization while lifting their spirit on one of Vermont's most beautiful and iconic mountains. We want to help be part of the solution.”
Vermont Beer Shepherd, a family-owned craft beverage distribution company located in Waterbury, will be participating in the Challenge. The Shepherds will be represented by VBS Communications Director Kate Ewald, who has joined forces with Massachusetts-based Renewable Energy Development Partners to participate in the Challenge in honor of Marie Martin, a beloved teacher, mother, grandmother and friend.
“Outdoor recreation and community involvement are something we have ingrained in the VBS ethos. The Camel’s Hump Challenge is a great way to get involved in wintertime recreation while also supporting a great cause - raising awareness and funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association," said VBS Owner and Founder, Mark Ewald. "We are excited to start a tradition of sponsoring a Camel’s Hump Challenge team: The Shepherds."
Other local businesses providing time and resources to support the Camel’s Hump Challenge include Select Design, Red Hen Baking, Bytes.co, Stoner Andrews Inc., Shelburne Farms, Lawson's Finest, Couching Lion Maple Sugar Farm, Skida, and Bivo. Last year, the Challenge drew more than 75 participants and raised more than $57,000. For more information on the Camel’s Hump Challenge and to donate, visit CamelsHumpChallenge.com.
