Vermont Agency of Transportation This weekly report for September 27, 2021, is a list of planned construction activities that will have traffic impacts on state highways throughout Vermont. Please remember to drive safely in all work zones. Lives depend on it.
Interstates
I-89 Berlin – The bridge deck replacement project continues. Northbound and Southbound traffic have been reduced to one lane in each direction. Crossovers are being utilized. Motorists should be aware of a work zone speed reduction. A slowing of traffic on Route 62 throughout the week next week. No delays anticipated.
I-89 Hartford-Sharon – A resurfacing project continues. Operations will require lane reductions in the vicinity of active construction. A speed reduction to 55 mph will be enforced when lane closures are in effect. Night work the week of 9/26/21.
I-89 Middlesex – A culvert project is underway. Most work will occur off the roadway, but motorists should expect shoulder closures, reduced speeds, and occasional lane closures to allow for construction vehicles in/out of the work area.
I-89 Sharon – Bridge rehabilitation project continues. Northbound and Southbound traffic have been reduced to one lane in each direction. Crossovers are being utilized. Motorists should be aware of a work zone speed reduction
I-89 White River Junction – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a multi-year bridge replacement project on I-89 over the Connecticut River. Motorists should expect lane and speed reductions over the bridge.
I-91 Fairlee – A culvert replacement project is underway just north of Exit 15. Motorists should expect lane-width restrictions and speed reductions in the area.
I-91 Hartford – Motorists will encounter continuous lane closures on I-91 in both directions between Exits 12 and 11 as crews continue bridge repair operations.
I-91 Rockingham – The bridge replacement project nears completion. Both northbound and southbound travel lanes are open to traffic. Expect narrow lanes; please use caution.
I-91 Weathersfield – A bridge deck replacement project is underway at Exit 8 over VT 131. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction as Southbound traffic is merged to the Northbound bridge using a crossover. A speed reduction is in place.
Around the State
Berkshire – A culvert replacement project is wrapping up along VT 118 just north of its intersection with VT 105. Two-way traffic is now open over the newly constructed roadway.
Burlington – Work on the Shelburne Street Roundabout project is underway. A new traffic pattern is in place along U.S. 7 (Shelburne Street) between Flynn Ave and the intersections with St. Paul Street/Union Street and Beech Street. U.S. 7 northbound traffic is reduced to one lane beginning at Flynn Ave.
Motorists should expect lane closures and one-way traffic (eastbound) on Locust Street, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Gove Court will be closed to non-residents. Motorists can also expect reduced lane widths on Shelburne Street between Locust and Adams Court from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. throughout the week.
Burlington-South Burlington – Work is wrapping up on the concrete slab rehabilitation project on U.S. Route 7 and the Westbound I-189 off ramp. Minimal traffic impacts anticipated.
Burlington Waterfront - The AMTRAK/Greenway project continues. College Street will be open to vehicular traffic at the crossing on Friday evening, 9/24. Periods of one-way alternating traffic will be required at the King Street crossing. Access to the public lot will be maintained at all times.
Calais – A bridge replacement project is underway along VT 14 just south of its intersection with Pekin Brook Road. Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers during the day, with a traffic light at the bridge during off hours. Expect some delays.
Castleton – Motorists will encounter lane closures with alternating traffic at the intersection of VT 30 and VT 4A for a sidewalk construction project.
Cavendish-Weathersfield – A roadway project is nearing completion. Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic in the vicinity of multiple operations. Expect minor delays. A work-zone speed reduction is in effect.
Chelsea – Thetford – A resurfacing project continues along VT 113. Motorists should expect delays as crews continue paving operations.
Chester – Springfield – Multiple bridge replacement projects are underway on VT Route 11 between VT Route 103 in Chester and Route 106 in Springfield. Expect one-way alternating traffic at multiple points along this route. Expect minor delays in several locations.
Essex – Motorists will encounter one-way alternating traffic along VT 117 at its intersection with VT 289 this week. Expect some delays. The westbound VT 289 on-ramp remains closed; motorists will be shifted to the VT 289 eastbound ramp.
Groton – Newbury – Motorists should expect alternating one-way traffic on U.S. 302 with minimal delays as crews work on guardrail and sign installation.
Hartford – Motorists should expect delays on U.S. 4 and VT 14 for paving operations. Crews will also continue curb, sidewalk, and signal work.
Motorists can also expect uneven lanes and alternating one-way traffic along Sykes Mountain Avenue for the roundabout project.
Hartland – A bridge deck replacement project is underway along VT 12 over Lulls Brook. The bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic at noon on Sunday, 09/26.
Johnson – A slope remediation project continues along VT 15 next to the Lamoille River. Motorists should expect one-way alternating traffic with minimal delays in the project area.
Johnson – Morristown – Motorists should expect multiple traffic control packages and delays as crews pave VT 15 from the Hyde Park/Morristown town line to the Morristown roundabout and on VT 100. Work on curbing and drainage near the Morristown roundabout and along VT 100 will also continue.
Middlebury – Travelers will encounter alternating travel lanes during evening construction hours (7:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., Sunday – Friday morning) on U.S. 7, Court Square, and Main Street. Motorists can expect delays and limited road markings while paving work is completed.
North Hero – Grand Isle – Drawbridge construction continues along U.S. 2 - day and night. A speed reduction remains in place. Mariners: the drawbridge will open at the top of the hour between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day. Pittsford – Multiple activities for roadway reconstruction along U.S. Route 7 this week. Intermittent periods of one-way alternating traffic will be required at times throughout the week creating moderate delays. Motorists are urged to slow down and proceed with caution as they navigate new traffic patterns and lane shifts throughout the project. A speed reduction to 35 mph remains in effect.
Plymouth – A multi-week closure of VT-100 between U.S. 4 and VT 100A remains in place. Traffic continues to be rerouted from the south side to VT 100A and from the north side to U.S. 4. Through-traffic is not permitted.
Plymouth – Bridgewater – Expect one-way alternating traffic with delays along VT 100A for guardrail work and paving from 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Proctor – The North Street bridge project continues. North Street will remain closed to through-traffic at the location of the bridge until October 14, 2021. A signed detour is in effect.
Richford – Jay – Motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic along VT 105 in multiple locations, resulting in delays.
Ripton – A roadway and streambank stabilization project on Route 125 is underway. A one-way alternating traffic pattern will be in effect throughout the week in the vicinity of Old Town Road. Minor delays may result.
Rockingham – Our partners at NHDOT are working on a rehabilitation project on the Church Street Bridge connecting Vermont and New Hampshire. Motorists should expect intermittent, alternating one-way traffic and some delays.
Shelburne – So. Burlington – A series of signal improvements continues along U.S. 7 at intersections between McIntosh Avenue and Swift Street. Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures in the areas of operation.
Springfield – A roadway resurfacing project is wrapping up along VT Route 106 and VT Route 10. Expect one way alternating traffic in various locations. Minor delays.
Williston – Due to the closure of Muddy Brook Bridge on Kimball/Marshall Avenue, motorists on U.S. 2 will see an increase in traffic interruptions and should expect extended delays during peak commute hours in the morning and evening. Plan for extra travel time through the area.
Nightwork this week along U.S 2 near its intersection with Industrial Avenue. Motorists will encounter a temporary detour in the area, and should plan on lane closures from 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.
Wilmington – Brattleboro – A resurfacing project is underway along VT 9. Motorists can expect alternating one-way traffic with flaggers as crews continue drainage and slope work in Marlboro and erosion control measures throughout the project. Please note: a speed reduction is in place.
Winooski – A concrete slab rehabilitation project along U.S. Route 7 and West Allen St. (the Winooski Circulator) is wrapping up. Minimal traffic impacts anticipated.
Woodford – A ledge stabilization project is underway on Route 9. Eastbound traffic has been reduced from two lanes to one lane and a lane shift for Westbound traffic will be in place through November. Delays will occur. A work-zone speed reduction to 35 mph is now in effect. A traffic hold is scheduled for Tuesday, 9/28 between 9:00 a.m and 11:00 a.m.. Motorists should anticipate delays of 15-20 min. during this time frame. Brief periods of flagged traffic will be required in order to allow trucks in and out of the construction zone. Expect minor delays at these intervals.
