Join the Fun with the Maple 100 Event

Vermont Agency of Agriculture Food & Markets Most of us know the joys of Vermont maple syrup poured over a hot stack of pancakes, but there are plenty of other creative (and delicious) ways to enjoy maple. From mid-September to mid-October, Vermont’s Maple 100 invites you to explore all the ways to enjoy one of the state’s most treasured treats - through themed fall activities, events, and specialty products found around the state.

Vermonters and visitors alike are encouraged to indulge in maple products and learn about this important part of Vermont culture. Meet a sugarmaker, discover a new maple-inspired drink, try a new fall maple recipe, join your friends for an educational sugarbush woods tour, find the best creemee spot (warning: there could be many!), or join in for any of the other dozens of activities and ideas.

Grab a Bingo card to lead you on your maple adventure and snap photos along your way for a chance to win one of three amazing local maple prizes.

New USDA Grant Program for COVID-19 Relief

New USDA Relief Grants

USDA's Pandemic Response and Safety Grant Program provides grants to food processors, distributors, farmers markets, and producers impacted by COVID-19. Grants will cover eligible costs incurred between January 27, 2020, and December 31, 2021. The minimum award is $1,500 and the maximum award is $20,000. Eligible entities include small businesses and 501c(3) non-profits. No cost sharing or matching funds are required.

Apple Season is Here

Nothing says fall like fresh pressed cider or a baked apple pie. The seasons are changing and trees are loaded at Vermont's orchards! So get out and pick-your-own or find a farmstand near you. For more excitement, check out one of the many harvest festivals of the season. Find one to visit during your fall adventures across Vermont, from Bristol to Mount Snow to Cabot and more! Poultry Processing and Slaughter Workshops

On-Farm Poultry Processing

Join Rural Vermont for a two-part educational workshop on the slaughter and processing of poultry guided by Elizabeth Roma from Putting Down Roots Farm. Participants can choose to attend one or both workshops, which are being held back-to-back with an hour break in between. Each workshop is being held at a different location in the South Royalton area but within a short distance of each other. Participants get to take home their farm-fresh slaughtered and cut chicken. Registration is required to attend.

Multi-Species Grazing

Join the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship Program at University of Vermont Extension for a pasture walk with Ashlyn Bristle from Rebop Farm in Brattleboro. Rebop farm raises Jersey cows, Katahdin sheep and meat chickens. Learn how they stack species intensively with the goal of increasing soil organic matter, overall soil fertility, vigorous pasture growth and animal nutrition. This event is free and lunch will be provided. Registration is required tp attend. Contact Mary Ellen Franklin to sign-up.
