Vermont Business Magazine SILO Distillery, a farm to bottle spirit and cider producer located in Windsor, is now offering delivery of all products, including spirits, across their home state. The move comes in response to the coronavirus pandemic and in an attempt to bring their spirits into the homes of Vermonter’s looking for a high-quality, local option.
The team at SILO has been quick-thinking and nimble since the start of the pandemic in March 2020. By pivoting to sanitizer production just days after the initial shutdown and before the trend really took hold, SILO has been able to provide thousands of gallons of their sanitizer to individuals and businesses around Vermont, including hospitals and healthcare workers. They even gave away their sanitizer for free to members of the community for several months in an attempt to encourage community spirit during a challenging time.
As the need for sanitizer has slowed, the SILO team has been able to shift some of their focus back their first love – making delicious drinkables at their start to finish from the highest quality local ingredients at their barn in Windsor, VT. SILO bar and retail manager Jaime Ciccarelli has shifted her focus from in person cocktails and events onto concocting delicious cocktails to-go for no hassle happy hours at home.
“While I really miss the conversations and the spontaneity of serving people in person, this feels like a safe way to bring a little bit of the SILO bar into people’s homes. Plus, it’s been an awesome creative outlet!” says Ciccarelli.
SILO’s to-go version of an Irish Cream has been flying off the “shelves” in their online store. “We just can’t keep it stocked. I’m constantly making more which is great!” says Ciccarelli.
The plan is to continue with cocktails to-go and delivery of all SILO spirits for the foreseeable future.
In addition to small batch cocktails to-go, SILO offers a line of ready-to-drink cocktails. These were part of the SILO line up before the pandemic but are another perfect option for cocktails at home.
With 100ml “single serve” as well as 750ml “share size” these are great for a quick and easy cocktail after a safe day on the slopes.
The team at SILO aptly describes these ready-to-drinks as “no work, all play” – just chill or pour over ice and take a perfect sip.
Current SILO Spirits Available for Delivery
SILO’s flagship Vodka is made from 100% Vermont corn. Additionally, SILO offers several flavored vodkas, also with a Vermont corn base, made with all-natural ingredients and no added sugar. “The only thing added is listed on the label. The cucumber is made with fresh cucumbers peeled and sliced in house. The lavender with Vermont lavender flowers,” says SILO co-owner Anne Marie Delaney.
SILO Whiskeys are made from 100% Vermont grain. Currently they offer a SILO Maple Whiskey which includes the addition of Vermont maple as well as small batch whiskeys being released on a rotating basis. SILO Vermont Rye (100% Vermont rye) will be released later this month and available exclusively through SILO, not in state liquor stores.
SILO Gins are made from Vermont corn, Vermont apples and New England juniper. They offer classic SILO Gin and a SILO Reserve Gin. The Reserve Gin is rested in ex-bourbon barrels and takes on some color and char from the barrel for a richer gin with some extra depth that is perfect for the winter months.
Lastly is SILO Vermaro – a Vermont amaro-style liqueur made with 14 botanicals and slightly sweetened with Vermont maple syrup. This unique spirit is perfect for specialty cocktails or enjoyed on its own.
In addition to these spirits SILO is offering their ready-to-drink cocktails and share size cocktails to-go for delivery. To-go cocktails are small batch and may change with the seasons.
