In a letter sent to media today, Jason Gibbs, commissioner of the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, announced he is stepping down from that position May 14. There has been speculation in Montpelier that he will seek elective office this fall, perhaps as a Republican candidate for secretary of state.
